paying for other people

Mar 28, 2016 11:39AM EDT

Hi - i frequently purchase theater tickets, restaurant bills, etc where I pay for more than just my share of the bill. My friends or family then pay me back. This is messing with my budget every month because it looks like I am over spending when in actuality a lot of those purchases are net even. How do you suggest dealing with this? It is a different amount each month so it would be very hard to manually adjust each months budget after the fact.

The easiest way to handle this is when the people in question pay you back, note that transaction as being in the same category as what you paid (restaurant, etc) and that will offset the spending. If you don’t deposit the money, you can create a transaction and categorize it as such.
